At first I didn’t notice any problems until I tried to connect to a friend’s wifi a while back and couldn’t do it. Soon after I realized that I hadn’t gotten any updates. I’m pretty lazy and I hated doing updates anyway so I didn’t really worry about it at the time and just used the command prompt to connect to wifi.
At this point though I realize this is a problem as I haven’t updated my computer in quite a long time and I need to fix it. While searching online for a solution I tried to use the system file checker and DISM, and neither of them were able to start. I think there’s a bigger problem keeping certain windows functions from starting, but I don’t know what it is. Looking up any of these problems gives potential solutions to those specific problems, but not necessarily to this larger issue I’m having, so I’m posting here.

Interestingly when I first tried to stop wuauserv and cryptsvc it said that both of those were already stopped, although I was successfully able to start them, so not sure what that means. When running the windows update troubleshooter it said that it detected and fixed problems with windows update. I’m not sure what all of that means but it didn’t fix the problem.
